Honouring the Maltese EU-Presidency, a group of 41 pupils of the Symphony Orchestra of EEB1 travelled to Malta for their annual Easter concert and rehearsal tour, accompanied by the conductor Arman Simonyan, the musical assistant Agnieszka Zywert and three parents.
The orchestra plays in the open-air, after Mass on Easter Sunday, outside Marsaxlokk Church, at the invitation of the Parish Priest.
The Orchestra completed three main concerts, one in St. Julian’s church as a joint project with the church choir which was recorded and TV broadcasted, another one in St Sebastien’s church Qormi and one at Marsaxlokk school.
We played a masterclass with the Band Club of Santa Katarina’s Zurrieq and held an impromptu concert in the open air after Easter Day Mass in Marsaxlokk. We even managed a little tourism, seeing St John’s co-Cathedral in Valletta and various sites, such as the prehistoric stone tempel Hagar Qim and the blue grotto.
Everywhere we went we were welcomed and greatly touched by the hospitality and warmth of our Maltese hosts and friends. Warm thanks to all supporters of the Symphony Orchestra, the
String Chamber Orchestra and the newly founded Wind Chamber Orchestra; that made this School trip possible.
